ThunderPacktm and ThunderPack Minitm were both introduced in 2016. At the beginning they primarily used the Thunderbolttm 2 interface for direct connection to computers but they were both designed to accept a Thunderbolttm 3 circuit.

Today, ThunderPack Minitm continues the legacy with Thunderbolttm 3 connectivity in all models for direct connection with your laptop, plus a handy USB 3.1 port for any other connection. Thunderbolttm 3 is the new standard rolled out in 2017. It is based on the USB-C connector and is a super-set of the USB 3.1 Gen 2 specification.

It supports a wide range of video codecs for use on medium- or low-end productions. Connect it to a Mac running any popular editing, color grading, or VFX software and you have a complete system for use on set, including embedded audio.

The Pelican cases we use have an IP67 rating. In the International Protection Marking system (IEC Standard 60529), the first number (6) assures there is no ingress of dust and complete protection against contact (dust tight) with a duration of up to 8 hours based on air flow. The second number (7) assures there is no Ingress of water in harmful quantity when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 m of submersion). Oh, and the system is floatable (when closed) if things go terribly wrong.
