Acromove’s new ThunderPack Mini combines fast hardware RAID technology and battery operation for a totally unique Thunderbolt 3 product destined to become the new standard for portable, high-capacity, secure digital storage.
The time spent copying files is precious time that is wasted. That’s why companies need fast interfaces and speedy disk drive arrays, and it’s why the Acromove ThunderPack Mini now comes with Thunderbolt 3 and hardware RAID offering blazing transfer speeds for digital workflows.
“Thunderbolt 3 is the top-of-the-line protocol for direct-attached storage data transfer at 40Gb/s (gigabits per second) or 2800 MB/s (megabytes per second). But unless you are using a fast RAID array you can’t get the most out of it,” states Acromove CTO Evangelos Achillopoulos. “Single SSDs can operate at 500-600 MB/s which is faster than single HDDs, but there’s plenty more bandwidth to use on Thunderbolt 3. The best way to increase transfer speeds is to stripe several disks together in a RAID. ThunderPack Mini has eight 2.5” drive bays, using SSDs you’ll see speeds upwards of 2500 MB/s. With HDDs you’ll get about 1000 MB/s.”
ThunderPack Mini also comes in a version (the Mini+) with built-in Li-Ion battery backup. This is particularly important when you are working in an environment with unstable power, such as on location for digital film production. The Mini+ also includes an external DC input for a solar panel to operate off the grid, as well as external packs like Anton Bauer’s Cine VCLX battery packs or even car batteries (with proper cables). The Thunderbolt 3 connector will charge/operate a MacBook Pro, too, for extended operation away from AC power sources.
ThunderPack Mini+ can be hooked up to an external LTO drive using its 4-port 12-G SAS connector (with an outlet to power the drive). A breakout cable allows you to connect up to 4 external drives for a high capacity backup solution.
“ThunderPack Minis are shockproof and waterproof for an extra layer of protection for valuable data. Our patented 2.5” disk caddies isolate the drives from shock and vibration,” describes Artemios Achillopoulos, Acromove CEO. “They handle the abuse of shipping so you know you will be operational when you set up on location. And when you head back to the studio just put the ThunderPack Mini in the overhead bin on an airplane. When you hand-deliver that impossible-to-replace footage to the studio you’ll be a hero.”
Acromove will be at NAB 2018 in booth SL15107. More information is available at their web site https://acromove.natigon.gr and on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
