Edge Computing Workflows Using Acromove’s ServerPack showcased at GV Expo 2017
The ServerPack is used for moving large datasets from data centers to the cloud. Its hyper-converged architecture points the way to future IIoT and disaster recovery projects.
In its simplest form, “edge computing” is about putting an extra processing layer in the network between the end device and a centralized data center, which is commonly located in the cloud. The primary reasons for deploying edge computing are to significantly reduce network processing delays for time-critical applications and to greatly reduce the amount of data that needs to be sent upstream to a network.
The ServerPack is Acromove’s hyper-converged platform including computing, storage, and networking systems for complex edge computing workflows. It can be configured into a cluster of devices or used as stand-alone NAS. Processed data can be transmitted via the internet or wirelessly. The shipping case forms its exoskeleton so once full it can be simply closed and returned to the data center or carried as checked luggage on an airplane.
The ServerPack is a unique portable NAS using an 8-core Xeon processor with up to 144TB of raw storage (120TB with RAID6). It includes GbE and 10GbE copper and can be outfitted with 10GbE SFP+ and 40GbE QSFP+ network connections. All internal components are shock-mounted and the Pelican case is IP67-rated for water and dust protection.
It can be used in remote locations like submarines and ships or disaster sites, recording data and processing it before shipping back to headquarters where the data can be analyzed.
The ServerPack is the first of a series of products planned by Acromove to be used in Edge Computing scenarios and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). That “edge” could also be on a factory floor; at a busy hospital collecting patient data and MRIs; and more. While the idea of using a gateway for a remote enterprise office has been around a long time, the sheer growth of network technology and use cases with the Internet-of-Things is causing a rethinking of the entire process.
Acromove will be at the Government Video Expo 2017 on November 29 and 30 in booth 209. More information is available at their web site www.acromove.com and on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
